| Grant O'Bryan and Uncle Chris Jackson |
Grant O’Bryan, eight-year-old son of Stephanie and Jeff O’Bryan, is shown with his uncle Chris Jackson and Grant’s first deer, an eight-point buck.
Every year Stan Thompson, Kenny Thompson, and Chris Jackson all of Monroe City and Brad Thompson of Kearney get together for deer season. Last year they started including their nephews Grant O’Bryan of Monroe City and Bryce Detwiler of Kearney in their hunt. They make the youth weekend about the kids and work to help them sharpen their hunting, camping, and learn a few life skills they need to know (not sure how much of those life skills are need to know, but the boys sure enjoy it, says Stephanie). It is a great weekend for family to enjoy each other, and they look forward to the opening weekend of firearm season in which they can all get together again. Grant bagged his first deer, an eight-point buck, hunting during the youth season weekend. Grant was being supervised on the hunt by his uncle, Chris Jackson. Grant spotted the buck, and his uncle Chris talked him into a slow and steady pull of the trigger in which Grant was excited to have shot the deer right in the head. This is Grant’s second year at deer hunting. The group enjoyed the hunting and camping weekend at the George Thompson farm off of Route N.
