Holy Rosary Trojans beat Mark Twain

Holy Rosary won the toss and elected to receive the football. Kenny Smithey received the kick and returned the ball to the Holy Rosary 35. After a run of 10 yards, Mike Walker fumbled the ball and Mark Twain recovered. After an incomplete pass, a sweep for no gain, JD Brown made a big hit for a 5 yard loss, bringing up 4th and 16.

After a punt that rolled to the Holy Rosary 15 yard line, with a nice block on the end by Walker, Smithey breaks away on a sweep to run for an 85 yard touchdown. A pass from Kyle Fulton to Grant Vollrath completed the 2 point conversion making the score Holy Rosary 8 and Mark Twain 0 with 6:17 left in the first quarter. The Tigers started their drive at their 30 yard line. Brown and Andrea Herron made a stop after a short gain.

Brown made a solo stop after a short gain on the next play. The Tigers swept around the left end for a 40 yard touchdown run. A bootleg during the 2 point conversion was stopped by a Smithey solo tackle. Smithey returned the kick-off 10 yards to the 45 yard line. Walker pounded the middle for 5 yards. After an incomplete pass, Smithey racked up 10 yards between the tackles for a first down. Vollrath rolled off 6 yards outside the tackle. Herron drove ahead for a 7 yard gain from the fullback position. Walker pounded out 12 yards up the middle. Smithey made a tough run for a yard. Another Fulton to Vollrath pass produced a touchdown from the 20 yard line. A Herron carried run 2 point conversion was stopped short. The Tiger quarterback broke outside on an option run with Fulton tracking him down from behind at the Holy Rosary 35 yard line. On 1st and 10 Vollrath made a stop for a 4 yard loss. After two incomplete passes with Smithey applying pressure, on 4th and 14, the Tigers faked a punt passing the ball for a first down. After an incomplete pass, Smithey made a stop from the end position. Joseph Beaver made a tackle on 3rd and long. Smithey knocked the quarterback down on an incomplete pass attempt. Fulton carried for 7 yards.

Walker carried for 3 yards and a 1st down. Smithey carried for 8 yards. Smithey swept the end for 27 yards. Walker swept the opposite direction for 12 yards. Smithey pounded out another 2 yards. Fulton carried for 5 yards. Fulton and Vollrath hooked-up for a 5 yard screen pass. After an interception on a half back pass, Smithey ran the Tiger down at the Holy Rosary 20 yard line. On 1st down, Smithey turned the reverse in and Brown made the tackle for a 2 yard loss. Mark Twain caught a screen pass for a 4 yard loss. Walker dropped the quarterback for a 4 yard loss on a boot leg to end the half with the score Holy Rosary 14 and Mark Twain 6.
To start the 3rd quarter Smithey racked up a tackle at end. After an incomplete pass, Beaver, Walker, and Brown combined for a tackle. On a punt that hit the back of the offensive line, Steven Hays covered the ball at the Mark Twain 39 yard line. Smithey, on the first carry after half, ran 39 yards for a touch down. The extra point was no good. Fulton made the tackle on the kick-off. Brown recorded another tackle. After an incomplete pass, Brown made a tackle for a 5 yard loss. Smithey returned the punt for 9 yards. Walker pounded out 5 yards over the left side of the line. On 2nd and 5, Smithey blew through the defense for a 38 yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was not good. Smithey was not fooled by a reverse on the kick-off and made the tackle at the 35 yard line. The Mark Twain quarterback launched the ball deep. Hays picked the pass off and returned it 4 yards to the Mark Twain 49 yard line. Herron carried for 3 yards. Walker followed up with a 3 yard run. Herron powered ahead for 2 yards. Walker was stopped short of the first down. Beaver, Vollrath, and Brown combined to make the stop. Herron and Walker made tackles. The 3rd quarter ended with a score of Holy Rosary 26 and Mark Twain 6. On a dive play, the Tiger full back got loose and Walker tracked him down and made the solo tackle inside the 10 yard line. After a penalty on the Tigers to back them up 5 yards, Brad Walker and Brown made a solo stops after a 2 yard gains. Mark Twain puncheed the ball in with a screen to the right. The two point conversion was successful. Walker started the Holy Rosary offensive drive with a hard 7 yard run. Smithey carried for a one yard loss. Fulton carried for no gain. On the next carry Fulton was stopped short of a first down. Walker and Vollrath made a stop on a sweep. After an incomplete pass and a penalty, Brown made a solo tackle to stop the Tigers on 4th down. Walker made a hard run for 3 yards. The Trojans put the ball on the ground on a pitch and Mark Twain recovered. On 1st and 10 for the Tigers, Vollrath put pressure on the quarterback making the attempted pass short. Fulton picked the pass off and returned it 65 yards for a touch down. The extra point attempt was not successful. Herron and Smithey stopped a run for a short loss. Beaver, Herron, and Smithey combined for another tackle. Rouse made the stop on a screen. Smithey made the final stop of the game for a 5 yard loss. The final score was Holy Rosary 32 and Mark Twain 14.
