Local youth participate in Punt, Pass and Kick competition

Several kids from Monroe City participated in the NFL Punt, Pass and Kick sectional competition held on Sunday, Oct. 18 at the Optimist Sports Complex in Jefferson City.
Those attending were: Lance Williams, son of Scott and Kari Williams, 8-9 year-old group; Rachelle Porter, daughter of Brad Porter and Kim Beers, 10-11 year-old group; Chase Pennewell, son of Roger and Daphne Pennewell, 10-11 year-old group; Aubrey Ellison, daughter of Rob Ellison and Chris Ellison, 12-13 year-old group; Grant Vollrath, son of Mark and Jane Vollrath, 12-13 year-old group; Tegan Garner, daughter of Trent and Beth Garner, 14-15 year-old group; and Kyle Fulton, son of Mike and Penny Fulton, 14-15 year-old group.
Three of the area competitors won medals in their age groups. Kyle finished 1st in his group with a distance of 397 feet. Tegan finished third in her group with a distance of 189 feet. Grant finished third in his group with a distance of 251 feet. Kyle may get to move on to the next round of the PPK competition. The next level is the Team Championship, with the St. Louis Rams being the host team for this area. Kyle’s results will be compared to winners of other sectional competitions in the St. Louis Rams’ PPK Region. Those with the best results compete for the St. Louis Rams Team Championship on Nov. 29th at a Rams game. Kyle will be notified in the mail if he gets to compete in the Team Championship event. The NFL Punt, Pass and Kick program is a national skills competition for boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 15. Boys and girls in four separate age divisions compete against each other in punting, passing and placekicking. Over four million boys and girls from across the country participate in the PPK competition.
