Cazares’ trial set for January in St. Charles
Manuel Cazares will stand trial on Jan. 12, 2010 in St. Charles as the suspect of a double murder. Cazares made a brief appearance in St. Charles court on Friday. Cazares, 32, is accused in the Feb. 28 murders of Patrick Epley and Amanda Thomas, both formerly of Monroe City, at Thomas' apartment in Hannibal. He is charged with two counts of second-degree murder and one count of armed criminal action that police said he confessed to the crimes. Cazares remains in the Marion County Jail on $1 million bond. His case was moved to St. Charles on a change of venue from Marion County. He pleaded not guilty May 4 to two counts of second-degree murder.

The Monroe City Police Department responded to the following calls. A bicycle was found abandoned in front of a residence in the 300 block of North Oak. The bicycle was brought to the police station for safekeeping. There was a report of an intoxicated male harassing a female in the 100 block of S. Main Street. No one wanted to press charges and the male subject was warned. Two juveniles brothers were fighting over a bicycle at St. Jude's Cemetery William A. Hubbard was arrested for operating a vehicle while license revoked on July 21. There was a report of juveniles fighting at North Park on July 22. They were advised not to fight. BreAnna P. Bichsel was issued a summons for speeding. There was a 911 call from the 400 block of S. Washington Street with the caller reporting knocking on the door and then leaving. Nothing was located. Albert L. Washington was arrested for not having a valid license on July 23. There was a report of motorcycles driving through the Easy Street neighborhood at high rates of speed on July 24. Nothing was located. Jesse J. Elliott was issued a citation for a DWI and failure to keep to the right. A drive off was reported at Abel's on July 25. A report of a stolen bicycle was taken on July 26. Property damage was reported at the 700 block of Easy Street. The victim requested extra patrol and no report was filed. Trent T. Schroder was issued a citation for speeding on July 27.
