Marion County Commission okays agreement with City of Monroe
The Marion County Commission reported on Monday, March 23 that the City of Hannibal wishes to replace a culvert on West Ely Road.
Though the area is actually county property, the city said they would do it if the county has no objections. The recommendation was approved. Jerry Tower, president of Palmyra State Bank, visited the commission to go over some changes that will be necessary in the depository agreement. He will draw up a new one to submit to the commission for approval. Marion County Collector of Revenue Lee Viorel has shown the commission a letter that he received from Gary Osbourne, city clerk of Monroe City. In it, Osbourne said the Board of Aldermen have agreed to authorize contracts to be prepared to have the Marion County Collector begin collecting taxes for the portion of the city that is in Marion County. The city will formally adopt the contract at their April 9 meeting. Missouri Petroleum of St. Louis submitted the lone bid to supply the Marion County Highway Department with oil for roads. Their bid was $2.35 per gallon for EA- 300 type asphalt, $2.88 per gallon for MC-800, and $2.88 per gallon for MC-30. The bid was accepted unanimously.
Various claims against Marion County were presented to the commission, examined and approved, and the clerk will issue warrants in accordance with orders set forth on Allowance Record No. 2 as of the day of the meeting.
The next scheduled meeting for the Marion County Commission was Monday, March 30.
